Ben Piper was born on a farm near Kankakee, Illinois. He Married a local girl, Edith Rassweiler. He established a law practice in Naperville in about 1915. He was active in Naperville affairs including the board of education, Naperville YMCA, teaching at North Central, and Grace church. He was Mayor of Naperville in the late 20's and Naperville City Attorney for many years. He was instrumental in starting the Naperville National bank, Now Firstar, after the bank holiday in the 30's. Edith Piper's father was professor of mathematics at North Western College and a successful businessman in Naperville. Her uncle was also a professor at North Western College and was it's second president. Ben and Edith had two children, Betty and Robert. Betty graduated from North Central College and Robert, from Purdue University. Robert married a Downers Grove girl, Carol Preston, after discharge from the U.S. Navy following WW2. Robert was also a member of the Board of Education in Naperville in the late 60's. Carol graduated from North Central and although a chemistry major, became a tax consultant and a political activist. She served two terms on the Glenn Rock, New Jersey city council, when the family lived on the East Coast, and two terms on the Naperville City Council from 1987 to 1995. Their son, Steve, established his own business in Naperville, and his son Adam, is the third generation to attend Purdue. They also have a son, Bruce, who lives in Hamburg NJ and runs the travel agency Tour Team Travel. Naperville has always been a city blessed by a bountiful number of volunteers who have worked hard to make it a wonderful community in which to live and to raise a family. |
