Tim Sleep Appointed New Naperville Carillonneur

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 12, 2007) – Tim Sleep, a member of the Millennium Carillon Foundation (MCF) board who has been involved in the carillon project since its earliest stages, is the new City Carillonneur. The Naperville Park District board unanimously approved Sleep’s appointment Thursday.

Sleep, 58, replaces Wylie Crawford, who stepped down this summer after seven years. Sleep was a student of Crawford and John Gouwens and attained status as a carillon member of the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America (GCNA)  in 2004. He has performed Millennium Carillon recitals since 2003.

“Tim has long been an active proponent for the Millennium Carillon and we are thrilled that he will continue that commitment as Naperville’s new City Carillonneur,” said Brien Nagle, Chairman of the MCF.

Crawford will continue his duties locally as a carillon instructor, music director for the summer recital series and as GCNA Host for the 2010 Congress to be held in Naperville.

Sleep can be heard performing Thanksgiving weekend and New Year’s Eve as part of downtown Naperville’s annual holiday celebration. He will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov.23, following the conclusion of the holiday lighting parade. Sleep will also perform at noon Saturday, Nov. 24, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, as part of the Hometown Happenings weekend in downtown Naperville.

The carillon’s regular weekly recitals given by Naperville’s local carillonneurs continue at noon Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through April. For more information on the Millennium Carillon and recitals visit the website's Concert Schedule page.
